Survivors of Omagh bomb are honoured
By Martin Anderson
OMAGH bomb victim Donna Marie Keyes and bus driver Michael McNally were presented with awards for bravery last night at a star-studded ceremony in London.
Donna Marie was badly burned after the August blast which left 29 people dead including her 18-month-old niece Breda Devine.
Mr McNally, a bus driver, was working in the nearby depot when the bomb exploded. He helped ferry casualties to hospital and later discovered his cousin had been killed in the explosion. The 1999 Pride of Britain awards were presented to the pair by SDLP leader John Hume and Boyzone star Ronan Keating.
Mr Hume said: "It is an honour to present this award to such a very courageous person. Donna Marie is an outstanding symbol of courage for all those who have suffered in the terrible tragedy of Omagh."
Organisers said Donna Marie was given the award for her "amazing perseverance and indomitable spirit" and Mr McNally for his courage in going to the aid of the injured.
Since the August bomb Donna Marie has married her then fiance Gary McGillion. He and his sister, Tracey Devine, were also badly injured in the explosion.
