OMAGH BEGINS TO WALK INTO LIGHT
Omagh begins to walk into light
THOUSANDS of people took part in a candle-light procession in Omagh last night in memory of those who died in the bombing.
They then attended an open-air carol service in the shadow of the Christmas tree in the centre of the Co Tyrone town.
Catholics and Protestants joined for the service after churches in the town set aside their traditional carol services to be together for the special occasion.
The community came together for the 'Walk of Light', taking them past the scene of the horrific blast.
For a few, some of those who lost loved ones in the blast or who were injured, going past the scene was too much and they went directly to the carol service.
Earlier in the day the people of the town came together to lead the country in celebrating Christmas.
Hundreds packed into St Columba Church of Ireland parish church for a cross-community service of prayers and carols.
It formed the start of ITV's televised Christmas services and was broadcast across the UK.
The victims of the bombing were remembered during the service which took as its theme "Light out of Darkness".
Catholic and Protestant clergymen expressed the heartfelt thanks of the town for the many messages of sympathy, books of condolence and aid through the Omagh Fund.
