NEWRY

PEOPLE gathered in their hundreds in Newry town centre for a service organised by the churches and community groups in the town.
They listened attentively as Canon John Kearney spoke of his heartfelt sympathy for the victims and his disgust at what he described as the "appalling act of terror committed".
He said: "This is not an occasion for speeches. We are here to quietly stand in solidarity with all who are suffering.
"Nothing will ever eradicate the horror that befell the people of Omagh last Saturday. We extend our deeply felt sympathy to all the families of those who have died and are injured."
United in grief and sympathy, representatives from the Presbyterian Church, Methodist Church and the Church of Ireland prayed alongside
representatives from the Catholic Church.
