PRESIDENT Mary McAleese will join with the political leaders of Northern Ireland in attending an open-air act of prayerful reflection in Omagh tomorrow.
At 2.45pm tomorrow afternoon, thousands are expected to gather in the town centre to remember the victims of the bomb that ripped through Omagh a week before. A minute's silence will be observed at 3.10pm.
Following a meeting in Armagh last Monday, the leaders of the four main churches called on people all over Ireland to express their sympathy and solidarity with the people of Omagh in an "appropriate act of reflection".
Archbishop Sean Brady the Catholic primate, Archbishop Robin Eames, Church of Ireland primate, Rt Rev Dr John Dixon, Presbyterian moderator and Rev David Kerr, Methodist Church president will attend the interdenominational service in Omagh.
Omagh Town Traders' Association, Omagh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Tyrone Vintners' Association have agreed to close all commercial premises in the town for the day as a mark of respect to the victims of Saturday's bomb.
It is advised that people be in the town at 1.30pm tomorrow as massive crowds are expected. People are asked to share transport and to park on the outskirts of the town.
Plans are also being made for a national day of mourning, the details of which have not yet been finalised.
Meanwhile Omagh district council have set up a memorial fund at the First Trust Bank Ltd, High Street, Omagh. Donations can be made directly into the account or through the council.
