Scenes at hospital will stay with me Blair
BRITISH Prime Minister Tony Blair has spoken of his personal horror at the carnage in Omagh and said the scenes he witnessed at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital on Sunday night would remain with him for the rest of his life.
He said he would "go mad with grief" if any of his children suffered the terrible injuries inflicted on so many young people.
In a message to Belfast newspapers The Irish News and News Letter, Mr Blair said the very barbarity of those responsible was a reflection of their utter isolation from any strand of recognisable opinion in Irish politics.
"This was an attack upon the whole community - nationalist, unionist and neither. It was perpetrated by a small group of dissidents who do not represent anyone, anywhere," be said.
The purpose of the renegades responsible was clear - to wreck the peace process, to stop the Good Friday Agreement, to portray Sinn Fein as traitors and to provoke a reaction of such despair that the process was abandoned.
