Mackey slams arrest
CHAIRMAN of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement, Francis Mackey, has said his arrest by the RUC this week was a tactic and an attempt to quell growing political opposition to the Stormont Deal.
The Omagh based local councillor was detained by the RUC last Monday and released on Wednesday. At the time the RUC said it had arrested a number of people as part of an investigation into the Omagh bombing carried out by the Real IRA; allegedly the movement's military wing. The councillor said the arrests were a political round-up and part of a strategy designed to intimidate Republicans from joining the movement.
However, Bernadette Sands-McKevitt, group vice-chairwoman, said two new committees had been established in Limerick and work is continuing on others in the North.
