Omagh councillor held in bomb quiz
THE chairman of the 32-County Sovereignty Movement, alleged political support group for the Real IRA, was one of nine men being quizzed by the RUC and Garda last night about the Omagh bombing, writes Tom Brady
Detectives arrested Francie Mackey (44) at the Tyrone and Fermanagh psychiatric hospital, where he is nurse. It's on the outskirts of the bombed town.
Mackey has been an independent republican councillor in Omagh since he split with Provisional Sinn Fein over the peace process.
Last night, around 8pm, gardai investigating the bombing arrested another man from Co Louth. The 35-year-old was arrested in Dundalk and taken to Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan garda station.
The man, a Northerner, has been living in Dundalk a number of years. His arrest brings the number in Garda custody to four.
