PARAMILITARIES PAYBACK TIME
Paramilitaries payback time
ALL sections of the Republican movement must give a clear and unequivocal message that the campaign of violence is over for good, Democratic Left leader Proinsias De Rossa has told the Dail.
It is now "payback time" for the paramilitaries according to Mr De Rossa who added it is time for the Government to exert more pressure on the Republican movement to compromise in regard to decommissioning.
Describing the Omagh atrocity as an act of horrific mass murder he said solidarity with the victims must be shown by taking every step to dismantle the organisation responsible and to bring those involved in the deed to justice.
Mr De Rossa welcomed the statement on the atrocity from Gerry Adams.
But he said the contrast in tone and content between it and an interview in An Phoblacht with the IRA was a matter of concern. A clear statement from IRA leadership that it shared the analysis of Gerry Adams would now be a catalyst for political progress.
