WE SHOULD ALL FEEL SHAME SAYS DEAN
We should all feel ashamed

THE day the terrorist bomb ripped through Omagh should be seen as a day of shame for Ireland, the Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral said at special memorial service for the victims in Dublin yesterday.
The Very Rev Dr Maurice Stewart told the congregation which included President Mary McAleese, members of Omagh District Council and a host of dignitaries we should hang our heads in shame.
"Shame that it was plotted and planned not 100 miles from Dublin and we are told the names of the murderers are common knowledge. We are all involved in this. We are all in some measure responsible for this is our country."
The Dean told the packed St Patrick's Cathedral that after the Omagh bombing a mighty surge of anger swelled up throughout the country a righteous anger against such an inhuman act.
In his address the Dean said at the heart of the service was the list of names of the 28 dead. And that is all there is - names. The faces are gone. Eight days ago they were living persons a cross section of a community, all ages and all creeds."
The chairman of Omagh District Council, Sean Clarke, said the tributes from all over the world to Omagh people will be a tremendous help to those in mourning and the injured. "It will give the people the courage to pick up the pieces and raise our town from the ashes," he commented.
