Clinton for Stormont

US PRESIDENT Bill Clinton is expected to address the new Stormont Assembly during his one day visit to Belfast early next month.
Originally the historic new administration was not due to reconvene until Monday September 14 but Mr Clinton is believed to be anxious to speak to all the politicians during his visit and the Stormont venue is regarded as the most appropriate.
A major programme of building and refurbishment is being carried out at Parliament Buildings to make the transformation necessary to accommodate the 108 elected representatives, their officials, civil servants and the large numbers of journalists who will be reporting events.
One official said yesterday the proposed itinerary for Mr Clinton's visit on September 3 was changing by the day. But it is understood he has expressed his personal desire to go to Stormont to address the administration.
He is also expected lo travel to Armagh to meet the leaders of the four main churches. There are also suggestions that while he may not actually go to Omagh some facility may be arranged to allow the President time to talk to the relatives of the victims of last weekend's atrocity.
Mr Clinton will spend about nine hours in the North before flying in the Presidential jet Air Force One to Dublin where he is due to meet the Taoiseach Mr Bertie Ahern and leading government figures.
