O'Donoghue pledges to track bombers

JUSTICE Minister John O'Donoghue last night spoke of the Government's determination to track down those responsible for the. Omagh bombing which he described as a most heinous and appalling crime.
And he said both the Irish and British governments were determined to ensure that nobody could subvert the peace agreement passed by the Irish people. The minister who cut short his holiday IN the Canary Islands, was briefed for an hour by Garda Commissioner Pat Byrne when he jetted into Dublin airport last night. This was followed by a half-hour meeting with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern at the airport terminal on his return from Stormont where, fee met British premier Tony Blair.
A grim-faced Mr O'Donoghue said he was optimistic that those responsible for the bombing would be tracked down.
"The Irish people, north and south, made a very clear decision in referenda a short time ago. Nobody, but nobody can be allowed to subvert that," he said.
This was an appalling crime and the gardai and RUC would pursue those responsible to the very end, he promised. Mr Donaghue said would be meeting with Northern Secretary Mo Mowlam today in Belfast to review security arrangements and to discuss how they could progress from there.
Meanwhile at Hillsborough Castle Ian Paisley reacted furiously last night, saying that he had been snubbed by Tony Blair.
He stormed away from the building telling waiting reporters that the prime minister had agreed to meet him there last night but had not arrived at the agreed time. He was particularly annoyed because Mr Blair had earlier held a meeting with Gerry Adams, at Stormont House.
Mr Paisley's message to Mr Blair would have been that the government should stop the "appeasement" of Sinn Fein.
