SEAN'S POEM FOR PEACE
Sean's poem for peace
This is the poem twelve-years-old Sean McLaughlin wrote for President Mary McAleese when he visited her in Aras an Uachtarain some weeks ago with a group of classmates.
Local priest, Fr Shane Bradley said Sean was a "great little lad". Neighbours recalled he was a great footballer and was a central part of the under-age soccer scene in the area.
"He was a lovely lad who served as an altar boy in St Mary's Church. He had a wicked smile and was always in good form. It's hard to believe that he is gone. He was always up to something or another, when he turned up that is," smiled Fr Bradley.
The following is a copy of the short poem Sean gave to President McAleese calling for peace.
"Orange and Green, it doesn't matter
United now, don't shatter our dream
Scatter the seeds of peace over our land,
So we can travel hand in hand
across the bridge of hope."
The message from the Barker family read:-
"Stop the killing, stop the killing
no more little boys dead
no more little girls dead
It must stop."
