BUNDORAN PUBLIC FURIOUS AT SINN FEIN MARCH
Bundoran public furious at Republican Sinn Fein march
People in the seaside town of Bundoran are outraged at plans by the local Republican Sinn Fein to stage commemorative celebrations this weekend.
Locals say the plans which include concerts and marches are insensitive in the wake of the recent Omagh bombing and should be halted.
Members of the local Urban District Council have now officially called on the party to abandon their plans.
Local councillor Michael McElhenney said he was very annoyed at the party whom he pointed out did not support the present peace process and who did not condemn the Omagh bombing.
Colr. Denise Connolly urged all local people to boycott the plans.
Business people in the town have also come out in protest at the plans for the commemorative celebrations.
Local business woman Peggy Fitzgerald said everyone should boycott the celebrations in support of all those people killed or injured in the Omagh bombing.
"We should be supporting our friends in Omagh and Buncrana and elsewhere. It is unacceptable and actually obscene that these people are thinking of holding any form of celebrations during this time,' she said.
Meanwhile it is understood that plans for the occasion have since been scaled down following local public opposition.
A concert by The Wolfe Tones is believed to be one such casualty of the local public opposition.
Local Republican Sinn Fein councillor Joe O'Neill was not available for comment yesterday.
