MORE BLOOD DONORS NEEDED
More blood donors needed
As the need for more blood became more urgent following the bomb blast in Omagh, supplies to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry were replenished from Letterkenny General Hospital.
Yesterday, Alnagelvin's Consultant Haematologist, Dr. Mary Ryan, praised the local response to blood donations but warned that new donors are still needed.
"Those who donated blood in the past eight weeks saved lives in the past few days. None of these people were to know just how important their blood donations would be. We are grateful to these donors and the many who have come forward following Saturday's tragedy.
"The recent response to donations has helped us replenish stocks but blood donations have a shelf life of just two months and consistent continual donations remain extremely important," Dr. Ryan insisted.
