COUNCIL CONDEMNS BOMBERS

Council condemns bombers

Donegal County Council yesterday condemned those responsible for the Omagh bombing and called on them to respect the democratic wishes of the majority of the people in the island of Ireland.
At a special meeting of the council yesterday, stunned councillors passed a motion, expressing sympathy and condemning those responsible.
After opening a book of condolences, Council Chairman, Danny Harkin read the motion:
"Donegal County Council wish to express their sympathy to all the families of the bereaved and injured as a result of the Omagh bombing. We fully understand the deep hurt felt by our neighbouring community in Omagh, by our own people in Buncrana and their Spanish friendS and the sense of bewilderment that this should happen at that time.
The Council condemned the incident and those who carried it out and we call on them to respect the democratic mandate carried by the overwhelming majority of people in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland."
