Omagh case man to contest drink charge

THE man acquitted of the Omagh bomb is to contest a drink-driving charge, a court heard today.
Sean Hoey, of Molly Road, Jonesborough, made his second appearance at Newry Magistrates Court to face a charge of allegedly driving with excess alcohol.
Hoey sat in the public gallery for the brief hearing.
The 40-year-old was stopped by police at Finegans Road in his home village on July 5 and was found to have been over the legal alcohol limit for driving.
At an earlier court hearing a PSNI officer claimed he could connect the defendant to the charge.
This morning the case was adjourned until October 12 to fix a date for contest.
Sean Hoey is the only person to face criminal proceedings in connection with the Omagh atrocity. In December 2007 he was cleared of 58 charges, including 29 counts of murder.
In June four men were found liable for the Omagh bomb after relatives of some of those killed won a landmark civil case. Michael McKevitt, Liam Campbell, Seamus Daly and Colm Murphy were all ordered to pay thousands of pounds in compensation to the victims.
