A 37-YEAR-OLD farmer from Upper Faughart, Dundalk, Campbell was considered to be the Real IRA's director of operations in the border area at the time of the Omagh atrocity. Police raids on his house discovered an underground bunker, walkie talkies, latex gloves, and disposable body suits.
He was convicted by a court in the Republic in May 2004 for membership of the Real IRA and was sentenced to eight years imprisonment. Campbell, who is wanted in Lithuania on suspicion of buying weapons, is currently on remand awaiting extradition procedures.
Mr Justice Morgan said: "I am satisfied that there was cogent evidence that the fourth named defendant was a member of the Army Council of the Real IRA at the time of the Omagh bomb.
"I am further satisfied that he held an important leadership position in the RIRA at the time and subsequently.
"In his case it is also inexplicable that he should not have answered this case if he had an answer to it. I consider the case against him overwhelming."
