ACQUITTED MAN MAY TAKE ACTION
THE man acquitted of the Omagh bomb murders is seeking to take legal action over the report which found no evidence that two police officers lied during his trial, it emerged last night.
Sean Hoey's lawyer confirmed he has been instructed to launch judicial review proceedings against Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson.
Mr Hoey (pictured), an electrician from south Armagh, was cleared in December 2007 of killing 29 people in the Omagh atrocity and of involvement in a series of other terrorist attacks.
Solicitor Kevin Winters, whose Belfast-based firm acted for Mr Hoey during the trial, said they were now considering legal proceedings. Mr Winters said: "Mr Hoey has instructed us to apply for a judicial review of the decision of the Ombudsman's Office and the manner in which it was arrived at." He added: "Mr Hoey's entitlement to take any such legal proceedings will obviously be based on the impact that the Ombudsman's findings might have on the integrity of the trial process generally."
