FOREMAN FALSELY CLOCKED IN OMAGH BOMB ACCUSED
Foreman 'falsely clocked in Omagh bomb accused'
ONE of. the suspected Omagh bombers was falsely registered as working in Dublin on the day of the atrocity, Belfast High Court heard yesterday.
Seamus McKenna, one of five men accused of planting bomb, had allegedly been 'clocked in' at building site at Dublin City University on August 15, 1998, but was not really there.
Giving evidence, retired RUC detective chief superintendent Hamilton Houston said the site foreman had admitted to falsifying the records. Mr Houston told the court how Terrence Patrick Morgan had made the 'off the record' admission while under arrest in February 1999.
He said: "He told us that on the day before the bomb he made a mobile telephone available to an employer Colm Murphy and that on the Saturday of the incident he also registered Seamus McKenna."
At the time of the Omagh bomb Terrence Morgan had been working for another of the suspects, Colm Murphy. Added Mr Houston: "On the morning of August 15, 1998 he (Morgan) had signed McKenna into his place of employment. He was not at work that day according to Morgan.
Morgan had been arrested in Northern Ireland on February 21, 1999. A number of others including Colm Murphy were arrested by Gardai. Murphy is the only person to have been convicted in connection with the bombing but is currently awaiting a re-trial.
The civil suit returned to Belfast yesterday after a third stint in Dublin's Four Courts where it heard evidence from Garda officers.
Seamus McKenna, Michael McKevitt, Liam Campbell, Seamus Daly and Colm Murphy all deny any part in the mass murder.
The hearing continues.
