Omagh bomb case man to be released
THE release of Colm Murphy, whose conviction over the Omagh bomb was quashed last week, was given the go-ahead by the Irish Court of Criminal Appeal today.
Three appeal judges varied the 52-year-old's bail conditions to allow him to be freed.
Murphy, from Ravensdale, Dundalk, Co Louth, must pay bail totalling 50,000 euro (�34,600) to secure his freedom.
The court granted two independent sureties of 25,000 euro (�17,300). Murphy's sister Catherine Tully, who lives in County Armagh, will pay the first. Another surety will be provided by Murphy's daughter Leonora, who lives in Ravensdale.
Murphy must surrender his passport, sign on daily at Dundalk Garda Station and reside at a named address in Mount Pleasant, Dundalk.
After an appeal hearing from Murphy based on 45 grounds, three judges ruled his conviction in connection with the 1998 terror atrocity was unsafe and ordered a retrial.
Northern Ireland's worst single terror attack killed 29 people, including a woman pregnant with twins.
