Omagh victims meet minister
REPRESENTATIVES of the people caught up in the 1998 Real IRA bomb attack in Omagh last night assessed progress being made by the investigation into the process with the Republic's Justice Minister John O'Donoghue.
The Omagh Victims' Group saw the minister for the first time at his Dublin office for what they called a "wide-ranging discussion of a series of issues". Afterwards, chairman Michael Gallagher - whose son died in the blast that killed 29 people and injured more than 200 - said they had expressed concern that no one had yet been brought to justice for the bombing.
But he added: "We were happier coming out of the meeting than when we went into it. The minister expressed support for our bid to bring a civil action." Mr Gallagher said his group hoped for talks with Irish police Commissioner Pat Byrne.
