OMAGH ROLLS OUT RED CARPET
Omagh rolls out red carpet for United
By Peter Hutcheon
THE superstar footballers of Manchester United flew into the province today to play in tonight's sell-out benefit match for the Omagh fund.
And the chance to see the club's haul of trophies has prompted a huge rush for tickets for tonight's friendly at the St Julians' Road ground.
However, the 6,500 tickets for the game between the European Champions and Omagh Town sold out almost immediately after they went on sale three weeks ago.
The Treble winners are the biggest draw of the three high-profile games being played in aid of the Omagh Fund. Chelsea scored eight goals on their visit last month while Liverpool are due in October.
United Captain Roy Keane and strikers Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham are all due to play tonight.
The players will do a lap of honour with the trophies, the European Cup, the FA Cup and the Premiership trophy after the game.
Omagh Town manager Roy McCreadie said tonight's game was going to be a wonderful occasional both for the club and the people of Omagh. "I doubt if there to see all three of those trophies together in Northern Ireland and for it to be happening at St Julian's Road is something very special indeed.
"It's important that people come along and enjoy themselves but also that people do listen to the marshalls and one or two stupid people don't spoil it for everyone else.
"I'm looking forward to a magical evening at the club tonight and what should be a fantastic occasion for everyone."
Omagh Town are asking people without tickets to stay away from the St Julians Road ground this evening and those fortunate enough to have them not to invade the pitch after the match.
That would almost certainly prevent the players re-emerging from the changing room with the three trophies.
Manchester United will stay over in Omagh this evening and manager Sir Alex Ferguson will speak at a post-match dinner.
Kick-off tonight is at 7.30.
