A reason to love Boyzone
I HAVE never bought a Boyzone CD in my life. Like most 'twentysomethings' I've always regarded the Irish popstars as at the opposite end of where it's really at. Not anymore, however.
Their performance - on and off stage - in Omagh on Saturday was a tour de force.
They kept their promise to play a live gig in the town, thrilling 1,500 young fans by belting out a string of hits in the leisure centre.
And afterwards the band took tea and biscuits with survivors of the August 15 bomb atrocity.
"Nothing we do here is going to change what happened and it won't bring back the loved ones but. hopefully, once again, it shows the people of Omagh that we're all here to give them love and support at a time when they most need it," was the modest explanation from singer Ronan Keating.
Pauline Green, who lost part of a leg in the explosion certainly appreciated their efforts. "They were wonderful," she said.
In the words of the title of one of the Irish popsters' greatest hits, Love Me For A Reason, I think a lot of us have just found one.
