TWIN ACTS OF REMEMBERANCE WILL MARK ANNIVERSARY
Twin acts of remembrance will mark anniversary
THOUSANDS of people are expected to descend on Omagh and Buncrana this weekend to mark the first anniversary of the Market Street bomb.

Life in both towns will effectively come to a standstill as the respective communities turnout to remember the 29 victims killed in the August 15 blast. A series of religious services and public events have been planned for what is sure to be an emotional two days for the bereaved and injured. The highlight of the weekend will be the special open air Service of Remembrance held simultaneously in both towns on Sunday afternoon at 2:55pm.
The commemorations in Omagh get under way on Saturday afternoon with an informal ceremony at the bomb site on Market Street at 3:10pm - the exact time that the 500lb car bomb exploded.
It will be followed that evening by an anniversary mass at the Sacred Heart Church at 6pm.
All throughout the day Omagh Methodist Church will be open for personal and private prayer.
In Buncrana the commemorations get under way at 10am with a special wreath laying ceremony at the graves of the three local children killed in the bomb.
It takes place at St Mary's Cockhill and will be preceded by a short civic reception to welcome a delegation of officials from Omagh.
That night St Mary's Oratory will be the venue for a special Vigil for Peace. It takes place between 8:15pm and 11pm.
On Sunday the morning service at St Columba's Church in Omagh will be broadcast live on RTE Radio One.
And all churches in the town are invited to use the anniversary prayer and readings in their own morning worship.
The main ceremony takes place in High Street commencing at 2:55pm - people attending are asked to be in place for 2:30pm.
At the same time thousands of people are expected to gather in Market Square in Buncrana for a service of remembrance.
Among those who will be taking part will be friends of the two Spanish students killed in the blast.
Other anniversary events planned for Omagh include a series of exhibitions in the local library.
On display will be the condolence books received, a collection of patchwork quilts made up from material sent from all over the world, the Petals of Hope, Rays of Light floral exhibition and a selection of the many messages of sympathy and pieces of art sent to the people of Omagh.
The exhibition runs until August 23.
