Flanagan agrees to Omagh probe review
DETECTIVES from Belfast and Dublin met today to assess their huge investigation into the Omagh bombing outrage.
And it also emerged that RUC Chief Constable Sir Ronnie Flanagan has agreed to an independent review of his team's inquiry by a British police officer.
Even though five of the key men directly linked to the attack have been identified, security chiefs on both sides of the border fear the gang responsible may never bebrought to justice.
A man charged in connection with the bombing which left 29 people dead and more than 350 injured is to stand trial in Dublin.
It has been claimed that up to 60 people were directly involved in the atrocity or had advance knowledge some sort of an attack was being planned.
The majority of them have been questioned at some stage, sometimes twice, and while detectives have more or less established where and who assembled the 350lb bomb, the Real IRA terrorists involved are still free.
The man awaiting trial on �100,000 bail - Colm Murphy, a 46-year-old publican - has been accused of conspiracy to cause an explosion and membership of an illegal organisation.
