Deeply moving tribute to Omagh

ACROSS the Bridge of Hope - the Omagh fund CD.
Albums like this can be unbearably cringe-inducing but somehow, despite the incongruity of Sinead O'Connor singing Abba, this works well and proves incredibly moving.
It's our own Juliet Turner's heartbreaking Broken Things which could draw tears from a stone, but Liam Neeson's rendition of the poem by one of the youngest victims of the bomb, 12-year-old Buncrana boy Shaun McLaughlin, comes close.
If you ever bought a CD just because it's Christmas, make it this one, and buy a few for friends as well.
Rawlins Cross: Make It On Time (Magnetic).Celtic rock has had a dwindling reputation for a while - the Pogues have a lot to answer for - but Rankins Cross go right down the line from traditional to pop with most stops in between.
They are a six-piece from Nova Scotia. Brothers Dave and Gene Panting come up with the sort of songs you think you've already heard - but you haven't.
Jonny Lang: Wander This World (AandM Records).There's so much stuff out there you can miss not just an album or two but an entire career. And so for me it has proved with Jonny Lang.
This is his second outing and I'm told less bluesy and more eclectic, the mix of R'n'B, rock'n'roll and dark-edged bal lads but it's his gritty art-of-the-state guitar work that impresses most.
