OMAGH CHILDREN LAUNCH FESTIVE CELEBRATIONS

Omagh children launch festive celebrations
By Gary Grattan

PRIMARY school children from Omagh today launched the town's Christmas celebrations.
The theme this year is appropriate - Out Of Darkness Came Light.
Local church leader, the Rev Robert Herron, explained that the theme was chosen "in recognition of the tragic events which occurred in our town in August of this year".
A total of 29 people - many of them young people - died in the Real IRA bomb attack on the town.
Today around 50 pupils from ten local primary schools were the main focus of the festival launch in Omagh Library.
Mr Herron emphasised: "But the theme also reflects the positive approaches which are being taken to rebuild our community.
"This initiative, which is supported by the town's church, community and business leaders, together with Omagh District Council, is aimed at restoring the confidence of the Omagh people in their town, as well as sending out a positive image of the community moving forward."
The celebrations begin on November 26 with the switching on of the Christmas lights. Singing stars Daniel O'Donnell and Dolores Keane will be the main attractions.
