CLOGHER PLAYS ITS CHARITY CARD
Clogher plays its charity card
THE Tyrone village of Clogher is the place to be this Saturday afternoon.
St Patrick's Park in the village is the venue for a very special charity match between the county's All-Ireland winning minor side and an Augher/Clogher selection.
All proceeds from the match, which begins at 2.30pm, will go to the Appeal fund for the victims of the Omagh bomb.
Those who attend will also be able to glimpse the Tommy Markham Cup, won in such style by the Tyrone men on that memorable Sunday in September.
Originally planned for October 24, bad weather meant the match had to be called off.
However the organisers, determined to pay tribute to those who died in the atrocity, have managed to refix the game for Saturday.
History will also be made as the match is expected to be the last time the victorious Red Hand minor side line out as a team.
Mickey Harte and Fr Gerard McAleer, the two men who guided the county's teenagers to such heights, will remain in charge of the side for Saturday.
After Saturday the two men will turn their attention to their new role as bosses of the county U-21 side.
Augher man Dessie McKenna, captain of the last Red Hand minor side to win the All-Ireland in 1973 will take charge of the Augher/ Clogher select.
Music at will be provided by St Patrick's youth marching band whose men come from Augher and Clogher.
