INSULT TO INJURY
Insult to injury
SOMEONE you can't admire is Francie Mackey, the Omagh councillor with the elephant-hide skin. The whole world knows that the 32-County Sovereignty Committee is related, through the partner of one of its chief spokespersons, Bernadette Sands McDevitt, to the Real IRA.
Yet he clings on to his council seat, after the Omagh bomb, while remaining chairman of the 32-County committee. Whether he condemns the bombing or not - and we know how paramilitary organisations on both sides distance themselves from bombs that go terribly wrong - he should accept that his presence adds insult to the town's enormous injury. His choice is between resignation and resigning and standing for re-election.
