20,000 tourism jobs 'in five years'
EXPANDING tourism could create 20,000 new jobs in Northern Ireland over the next five years.
The Omagh terrorist bomb and marching season disturbances this summer are likely to leave overseas visitor numbers to Northern Ireland for 1998 at about the same level as last year.
But tourist chiefs expect a substantial increase in visitors over the next few years.
"We reckon tourism will generate �285m of revenue by the year 2000 and tourism could create 20,000 new jobs over the next five years", said Roy Baillie, Northern Ireland Tourist Board chairman.
He was speaking in Marbella in Spain, where the Association of British Travel Agents' annual convention is being held.
