Model inspires Omagh victims

A BRAVE model who carried on a successful career after losing her leg five years ago is set to become an inspiration for young amputees in Omagh.
Heather Mills, whose left leg was amputated after a motorcycle cop ran her down answering a false alarm at Princess Diana's home, has agreed to travel to Omagh to talk about her success in overcoming her disability.
Shortly after the accident, the glamorous Londoner said: "My legs are my fortune - in the modelling world they are what I am known for.
"I was really going to go for it and model for another four years then branch off into TV presenting. But how can you be the next Anneka Rice hobbling about on my stump?"
But she refused to give up on her dream, had an artificial leg specially made and her career soared to new heights.
The model will also show amputees and families how she has benefited from using the state of the art artificial limb.
She has already been contacted by Sue Prenter, the Professions Allied To Medicine manager with Sperrin Lakeland Trust.
Ms Prenter was inspired after reading a magazine article about Heather Mills' determination not to let the accident change her lifestyle.
She said: "I have been in contact with Heather Mills who had a very nice prosthesis (artificial limb) made.
Ms Prenter was "If the families wish it, she has agreed to come over and talk to people about her own experience. She was pore than happy to help."
Although Omagh bomb victims will receive National Health Service prosthesis, funding being raised may enable them to purchase state of the art equipment if they wish.
