PRAYER SERVICE FOR VICTIMS
Prayer service in memory of Omagh victims
By Kathryn Torney
An ecumenical prayer service was due to be held in the Irish Centre in Birmingham today in memory of the 29 people killed in the Omagh atrocity.
The service was due to be led by Fr Donal Gillespie, who is a native of the Co Tyrone town.
Fr Gillespie was on holiday in Omagh, from his parish in north Wales, at the time of the bombing and extended his stay to assist the victims.
Donations towards the fund to aid the victims of the bombing were taken up after the service and a cheque was due to be presented by an official of Winson Green Prison after a collection arranged by inmates.
The service was organised by the Tyrone County Association in Birmingham in response to the expressed wishes of their members and the Irish community who wished to pay their respects to the victims and the bereaved.
They also plan to send a book of condolences to the people of Omagh.
