MEMORIAL PLAN IN PIPELINE

Memorial plan in pipeline

EIGHT buildings will have to be demolished in the area around the Omagh bomb site, the local council said today.
Plans have not yet been finalised for what will replace the buildings, but it is expected that some sort of memorial will be erected.
Vincent Brogan, Head of Development at Omagh Council, said a safety assessment was carried out and it emerged that buildings on both sides of the street would have to be demolished.
He said what was needed was a balance between the sensitivity of the situation and the need to help the area reach a better future.
Substantial areas of Market Street were damaged in the bomb blast on August 15.
