RESILIENT PEOPLE WILL RISE AGAIN
Resilient people 'will rise again'
OMAGH District Council's chief executive today said that the townspeople are resilient enough to rise up again from the devastation.
John McKinney said he was disgusted with the recent bomb scares in the area.
"But despite that the people of Omagh will be resilient enough to rise up again and work collectively with each other," he said.
"The month's anniversary is an emotional time. The books of condolences have been closed, many of the flowers have been collected to make a memorial and we are planning to produce a poetry book of poems written by people in the aftermath.
"The mood is reflective and we have to respect that.
"But I think there is a determination as well among the business community and the community as a whole."
Mr McKinney said a poem written by Ulster poet Seamus Heaney in the book of condolences from the people of Bellaghy summed up his feelings.
It read:
So hope for a great sea change
On the far side of revenge.
Believe that a farther shore
Is reachable from here.
Believe in miracles
And cures and healing wells.
