Omagh side in emotional 'semi' return
NIALL McSorley may be an interested spectator when Omagh St Enda's finally go into action tonight.
The club will meet Donaghmore in the second semi-final of the Tyrone senior football championship at Carrickmore - a match that has been deferred until now because of the Omagh bomb atrocity.
And for McSorley tonight's match will be a particularly poignant occasion.
He is one of Omagh's outstanding players but is forced to miss the game because of injuries sustained in the explosion.
He is on crutches but plans to put his personal anguish to the side as his team bid to reach the decider.
Omagh will no doubt have great difficulty in motivating themselves for a sporting fixture, given the human grief and suffering which they nave had to endure.
The Omagh management are trying to come to terms with the loss of McSorley and it remains to be seen how the squad will cope with the undoubted pressures they will face.
McSorley has been one of the St Enda's outstanding players this season, his darting runs, electrifying speed and boundless energy a prime reason for the success the side has enjoyed to date.
And while Omagh prepare to battle against psychological odds, Donaghmore will be hoping to make it into the final of a competition which they have not won since 1927.
Chairman Brian Falloon and vice-chairman Oliver McVeigh have been spearheading the drive to restore the club as a major force and with such talented players as Dalglish Heatherington, Adrian Cush and others in their side they hope to book their passage into a final meeting with Ardboe at Pomeroy on September 13.
Enniskillen Gaels are hoping to land the Fermanagh senior county football title on Sunday when they meet Devenish in the final at Irvinestown.
But Devenish are equally keen to reign in the Erne county where they have been among the most prominent clubs in recent years.
Meanwhile, Lavey are expected to be without Henry Downey for their Derry senior county hurling semi-final against Dungiven.
Downey's hamstring injury prevented him from assisting o Lavey against Ballinderry in last week-end's football semifinal and it is doubtful if he will be fully fit for the hurling 'semi'.
