Whitehall fact - or farce
WHERE else would you get it but in a Whitehall farce?
Parliament is being recalled to enact a law which will make it easier to jail terrorists. Very laudable you might comment. However, a few weeks ago Parliament met to pass legislation to enable the early release from prison of convicted terrorists.
Confused?
You should be.
It appears that this Government is prepared to recognise two types of gunmen and bombers. Firstly, for the sake of argument, "ordinary decent terrorists", who are signed up to the peace process but refuse to hand in their weapons, and secondly, "murdering thugs" who are to be "crushed".
But perhaps we should take comfort from the fact that, according to Prime Minister Blair, "we live in a democracy".
Some democracy, where it is the men of violence who set the agenda!
