Do as I say ... not as I do
I WELCOME President Clinton to Northern Ireland for the second time in three years and suggest three additions to his itinerary.
He could visit the parents of Andrew Kearney and explain to them why he is so willing to receive and entertain the political representatives of their son's killers.
He could visit Mrs Sandra Peacock and explain to her why she must tolerate the prospect of her husband's murderer having early release from prison, while at the same time he is offering a huge sum of money for the capture of the murderers who planted those two devastating bombs in East Africa.
He could visit Banbridge town centre (which, like Oklahoma, was destroyed by a terrorist bomb) and explain to the local retailers why they should tolerate two members of Sinn Fein in their Government, while at the same time insisting that Saddam Hussein should decommission all of his "weapons of mass destruction" before Iraq can have any role in international affairs.
I doubt the President would have much interest in my proposals. Probably he will be too busy congratulating all of us for taking a "brave step" forward which he himself would never dare take!
