Omagh homing in on glamour match
OMAGH Town's glamour friendly with one of the top teams in Britain, in aid of the Omagh bomb fund, is now likely to take place after Christmas.
Omagh manager Roy McCreadie confirmed today that correspondence with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Celtic and Rangers is being maintained and meetings within the dub are continuing with the object to find suitable dates.
"At the moment those clubs are in Europe and are playing midweek most of the time so it looks like after Christmas now," said McCreadie.
The question is - where will the match take place? Omagh's GAA ground Healy Park is the ideal venue given its estimated 20,000 capacity, but GAA rules state that soccer matches cannot take place in their grounds.
Meanwhile Northern Ireland and the Republic are set to meet next year as well in a match or matches with receipts going to the fund.
The Northern Ireland players have also agreed to donate their match fee for Saturday's European Championship qualifier in Turkey to the fund.
