THE shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Andrew Mackay, was today expected to visit bomb-ravaged Omagh - amid criticisms he should have done so earlier.
The Tory politician was due to meet senior police officers in the town this afternoon before embarking on a tour.
Later in the afternoon, he was to visit the emergency coordination centre where agencies are still providing care and advice to victims and relatives.
The East Berkshire MP was expected to sign a Book of Condolence and examine some reconstruction work before meeting civic leaders and Omagh councillors.
Mr Mackay, who yesterday returned from a holiday on a Greek island, has come under fire for not visiting Omagh sooner.
DUP leader Peter Robinson led the condemnation, saying the 48-year-old was "not a serious player"in Northern Ireland affairs.
Mr Mackay was out of the UK at the time of the Omagh bombing.
