OMAGH MUST GIVE PEACE IN OUR TIME
Omagh must give peace in our time
I WISH to join with the majority of people who have been expressing total disgust at the tragic events in Omagh on Saturday August 15. A day of religious festival for many, murder and mayhem for others.
My father came from the Omagh area, my late mother from Buncrana, I am a nurse by profession. I spent my summer holidays again in Buncrana this year, during their annual summer festival in late July. I was very pleased to see that once again Buncrana people would be hosting foreign students - it was a pleasure listening to them and watching them enjoy Buncrana's craic.
I, like many people, campaigned for a Yes vote and a Yes candidate, only to see in the weeks following the elections - that the bombers/gunmen "had not gone away."
We have those in our midst who still feel the need to use the bomb and gun for their political gain. The people of Ireland have shown at the ballot box in 1998 that we want peace in our time.
I plead with the people to look at Omagh, at the dead and injured, at the shame on the Irish name we need no more Omaghs, Banbridges, etc.
