APPALLING TASTE ON OMAGH BROADCAST
Appalling taste on Omagh broadcast
Patronising. Disgraceful. Pathetic. Just some of the words that sprung to mind as I sat, aghast, watching the 'Thursday Night Live' programme broadcast on UTV last week. It was made all the worse by the fact that the last of the victims of the Omagh bomb had scarcely been buried.
Who in their right mind could have allowed such a programme to be broadcast on such a night?
From the outset it was obvious that time was tight but it was totally inexcusable for those brave individuals in the Omagh studio to be asked about their feelings only to be cut off mid-sentence.
How dare the makers of this programme trivialise the incomprehensible pain of those ordinary people in such a way. I felt like getting up and smashing the television.
This was the saddest week in the history of this little land of ours. Sad, not only for the victims, their friends and families but ultimately our whole community. Nobody with a heart could fail to be deeply touched by the injustice of it all. Let us hope with ALL our hearts - with ONE heart - that Omagh will be the last.
