School heads urged to set a lead
By Gary Grattan
THE coming school year should be dedicated to fostering better community relations, a headmaster suggested today.
Billy Tate, principal of Aughnacloy Regional Primary, believes school principals must take the lead after the Omagh bombing.
"I urge my fellow principals to dedicate this school year to fostering better cross-community relations.
"We are leaders - and this is an issue which demands strong leadership.
"We should take risks because this is the Christian thing to do.
"We have tremendous influence in school, we can change our society and we will do so.
"No more of our children will lie on cold pavements while their life-blood ebbs from their body. Enough is enough," he said.
"The blood of the innocents in Omagh came from all sides. A whole country was mutilated and part of us died," he added.
"For the sake of these poor people give peace a chance to flourish. Soften our hearts, look at our children and pledge our resolve to giving them more than we have had in the past," he urged.
