INTERNMENT WON'T WORK
Internment 'won't work'
EVEN at this distance, my wife and I feel keenly the pain and confusion of the people of Northern Ireland at the rude, senseless, in-terruption in a process toward peace and co-existenced that is going on.
It is natural, I suppose, to question your trust and dependence on the good in our nature when something horrible like this happens.
Already there are statements arising in the press from citizens and activists who would lose their resolve for peace. Here in America, as much as any place in the world, we know that liberty is not easily won nor peace easily defended.
It must become obvious soon that decommissioning is the only path to peace. In an environment where the weapons of death and destruction are openly surrendered, blame for continued acts of treachery can't be put on the wrong party easily. Internment won't work because the people must rise up and vomit out their offenders, so justice can be swift and future treachery discouraged.
It will take courage and determination to stay the course and allow time for the voices of the people to be heard above the disharmony of those who ware mired in their 'positions'. The process for peace must persist, only the purposes of the few remaining bigots are realised if it fails.
