ORANGE LEADERS TO CONTINUE DRUMCREE PROTEST

Orange leaders to continue Drumcree protest
By Noel McAdam

PORTADOWN Orange leaders have rejected a new appeal to call off the Drumcree protest following the Omagh atrocity.
A plea to district officers from leading chaplains in the Order was turned down.
A source close to the Orange leaders said: "The chaplains regarded Omagh as another opportunity for the District to leave Drumcree with a degree of dignity, much in the same way as the deaths of the Quinn children in Ballymoney.
"But the men here are determined to go on until they achieve their objective of completing their traditional route along Garvaghy Road."
The Parades Commission rejected a new application from Portadown District to march along the bitterly contested route tomorrow.
