ADAMS MUST GO EXTRA MILE
Adams must go extra mile
AFTER 30 years of violence in the North of Ireland the leader of Sinn Fein has at last condemned an act of pure brutal murder carried out by republican terrorists.
At first I welcomed his condemnation but as I reflected on it, the utter hypocrisy of his condemnation became clear.
He has been pressed time and time again to condemn vicious actions by the IRA and has refused to do so by making some lame excuse.
So why did he condemn this act?
Could it be that unless he condemned the Omagh bomb support for Sinn Fein would nose-dive because of the many Catholic fatalities and injuries?
If Mr Adams is genuine then it is the first step towards gaining the respect of decent people.
The next step would be for the lRA to state that all violence is finished for good.
I have heard him say that this is just another unionist precondition but it is not a politicians' precondition, it is the people's precondition both Protestant and Catholic alike.
