Innocent lives torn apart wantonly
FEW adults will have read and seen reports of the atrocity in Omagh without experiencing a sinking feeling of deja vu.
Vile terrorism tearing apart innocent lives, randomly and wantonly.
Words can never convey the sheer horror that all decent people will feel at this barbarism. Our deepest sympathies lie with the families of those bereaved, and we pray that they will find the strength to cope with the situation they find themselves in.
That such unmitigated evil can stalk out towns ' and villages is appalling, but it is not "mindless" as our Secretary of State and certain pundits are claiming. Nor is it an attack on the "peace process".
Those behind the carnage in Omagh are perfectly aware of what they are doing - bombing their way to the best deal possible from Government.
They have seen what the bombings over the past 28 years have achieved, and clearly are following in the republican tradition of mass murder for political ends.
Does the immoral logic of the "peace process" not now require that Ms Mowlam opens communication channels with that group behind the Omagh bombing, to determine their requirements for stopping future such violence? After all, it is being simultaneously reported that up to 400 prisoners are to be released from jail (some in the next two weeks), free to walk away from their terrorist convictions.
Politicians such as David Trimble and John Hume who have actively endorsed the release of convicted terrorists have created this formula for more terror.
The gross hypocrisy of all those who engineered and then congratulated themselves on the Stormont Agreement, with its lethal provisions for appeasing terrorists, stands fully exposed this day.
By encouraging terrorism through accommodation brings to mind the old adage that "appeasers believe that if you keep on throwing steaks to a tiger, the tiger will turn vegetarian".
Omagh showed that killers' appetites never ever change.
