Youth Council sorrow at blast horror

THE Youth Council for Northern Ireland has condemned the Omagh bomb as an "act of barbarity". And it said no community should ever have to suffer in the way Omagh and its visitors have been forced to suffer.
Youth Council chairman Michael Murphy said over half of those killed were children or young people, and young people identified very closely with the tragedy.
Mr Murphy, a former chief executive of the Western Education Board, whose headquarters is in Omagh, said: "The town of Omagh, for many of us, has always epitomised the best in Northern Ireland.
"Its people have enhanced the lives of those around them, through friendship, helpfulness and just good nature.
"Somehow out of this carnage and out of the suffering and sorrow of young and old, the ordinary people of )Omagh have become extraordinary people by their actions.
"They have given to the rest of us a renewed faith in people and a determination to achieve peace in Northern Ireland.
"The young people of the province have ready shown commitment and desire to help, to develop a new vision for our country," Mr Murphy added.
