HUNDREDS JOIN FAMILIES IN SILENT SORROW
Hundreds join families in silent sorrow
AROUND 250 people gathered yesterday in Madrid for the funerals of 12-year-old Fernando Blasco and Rocio Abad Ramos, (23), the two Spaniards killed in the Omagh car-bomb blast.
More than 50 people joined the Blasco Baselga family as their child was laid to rest in the San Justo cemetery on the southwestern outskirts of Madrid some 12 hours after his body was flown back to Spain.
The teacher killed in the blast, Rocio Abad Ramos, was cremated in eastern Madrid's Almudena cemetery in a service attended by 200 people many of whom had to stand outside the cremation building while prayers were read.
Twenty-eight people were killed in the blast in the centre of the busy market town of Omagh - 12 Spaniards were among 220 injured.
The Spaniards had travelled to Omagh while on an exchange visit to Ireland to improve their English.
At both funerals, the families of the victims were joined in silence by relatives, friends and sympathisers.
Speaking at the Blasco Baselga funeral, Madrid's Auxiliary Bishop Fidel Herriez, said he hoped the family's Christian faith would help them overcome the suffering.
