Security promises encourages Trimble

FIRST Minister David Trimble was today expecting a series of security measures to be announced after a meeting with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
Mr Trimble, who will meet Mr Ahern this evening, said it is desirable for parallel measures to be introduced on both sides of the border.
Expressing confidence in Mr Ahern's willingness to back up his promises with tough action against the bombers. Mr Trimble said he is encouraged by the Taoiseach's remarks.
And in a message to Provisional IRA and Sinn Fein, he reiterated the need for decommissioning.
The Secretary of State Mo Mowlam said the two governments are going to do everything they can to get bombers off the streets.
She said a small number of men and women will not be allowed to continue causing havoc and mayhem.
"We and the Irish later today will announce specific targeted measures that will make a difference," she said.
Dr Mowlam confirmed that prison releases for those signed up to the Good Friday Agreement will go ahead as planned, but warned no one involved in terrorist activity after April 10 will be eligible.
SDLP deputy leader Seamus Mallon said it is important the entire community supports the measures of the two governments.
He said the measures should be targeted at the guilty and that the rest of the community should not have to suffer as a consequence.
Mr Mallon expressed confidence that the vast majority of people remain committed to the Good Friday Agreement.
He said the community is facing a choice between more atrocities a new political future.
