Thousands join families to pay last respects

SIXTEEN victims of the Omagh massacre were laid to rest today as Ulster again gathered to weep over the coffins of its dead.
Thousands were expected to attend the funerals which started at 11am when BREDA DEVINE (20mths) was buried in Donemana after Requiem Mass in St Mary's Church Aghabrack.
At the same time mourners gathered in Buncrana for a joint service for JAMES BARKER (12), SEAN MCLAUGHLIN (12) and ORAN DOHERTY (8).
And in Eskra Requiem Mass was celebrated for JOLENE MARLOW (17), the eldest of five children, at St Patrick's Church in her home village of Eskra. Jolene, a gifted young sportswoman on the verge of a university career. The Loreto Convent pupil should have been receiving her A-Level results tomorrow. Mourners were led by parents Bridie and Joe.
Gaelic goalkeeper BRENDA LOGUE (17) was laid to rest today near her home on the outskirts of Omagh.
Brenda was on a shopping trip when the bomb exploded. She had gone shopping with her mother Mary and grandmother.
The two other women escaped with cuts and bruises but Brenda looked out the door of the shop to see what the commotion was about and was caught up in the blast.
Requiem Mass for Brenda was held in St Mary's Church, close to her Loughmacrory Park home.
Mourners were led by her distraught parents Mary and Tommy and three brothers Sean, Cahill and Karl.
Half-an-hour later the service was due to begin in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Beragh,for MARY GRIMES (65).
She was out shopping for her birthday with daughter Avril Monaghan and granddaughter Maura, who were buried yesterday.
Then at noon the funerals of ALAN RADFORD (16) and AIDAN GALLAGHER (21) were held.
The service for Alan, who was shopping with his mother, was held in the Family's Castleview home in Omagh.
Mr Gallagher's funeral was held at St Mary's Church, Knockmoyle.
The afternoon funerals continued at 2pm when LORRAINE WILSON (15) was buried.
Lorraine had been looking forward to a night out with her friend Samantha McFarland, who also worked at the town's Oxfam shop, when they were both cut down.
Lorraine, from Camowen Bungalows, was to be brought from her home to Cappagh Parish Church.
The Bishop of Derry and Raphoe Dr James Mehaffey was due to speak at the Church of Ireland service before she was buried in the adjoining churchyard.
At the same time Carrickmore was expected to come to a standstill for the funeral of GARETH CONWAY (18).
The student was in Omagh to buy a pair of contact lenses when he was caught up in the blast. Requiem Mass was to be said for Gareth, from Aughiogan Park , at St Colmcille's Church in the village.
Mourners were to be led by his parents Mickey and Rosemary, sisters Marita, Michaela and Shauneen and brothers Tom, Ryan and Des. Gareth was to be buried at St Mary's Cemetery, Loughmacrory.
The funerals were also to be held at the same time for OLIVE HAWKES (60), in Moyne Methodist and VEDA SHORT (56) in Seskinore Presbyterian.
Half an hour later the joint funeral was to be held of FRED WHITE (60) and his son BRYAN (26).
The service was to be at Ballynahatty and Creevan Presbyterian Church. It is believed he had gone in to town to do some shopping with his son when the car bomb exploded.
His family was to hold a private service at their home in Knockgreenan Avenue in Omagh before the cortege left for the Presbyterian Church on Loughmuck Road.
The service was to be conducted by Rev Arthur O'Neill and Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Dixon.
The last funeral of the day was that of PHILOMENA SKELTON (39).
She was to be laid to rest in the graveyard of St Patrick's Church at Langfield, Tyrone near Drumquin.
Mena and Kevin would have been married 20 years on August 31.
The Mass was to be held at St Patrick's Church, Langfield, after the cortege left from the family home at 3 McCrea Park, Dooish, Drumquin.
